What we call “foundation” is 90% of what makes a dancer truly great, the other 10% being the styling, footwork, flash, etc. that can look good in videos but rarely feels as good without the proper foundation. . Part of foundation is what we call “movement quality”, and one of the hallmarks of excellent movement quality is smooth, controlled, unforced and natural movement. The terms “ginga” or “banga”, etc. are often used to refer to certain aspects of movement quality. Movement quality is just as important for men as it is for women, and it takes work to make the unnatural become natural, and to make the difficult look easy. In this video I was working on control with #mutuashi which is really tough in its own right. Then Brayo Judah suggested I kick it up a notch by doing it #birdbox style with a pot on my head. Let me tell you, it is friggin’ hard! But I made it do what it do. Don’t try this at home if you’re near anything that might be damaged from a fall or damage YOU from a fall haha.
